The constant packing of food material into the space caused an eventual communication between the mouth and the nasal cavity. For the cavity to heal, the hole from the missing tooth needs to be plugged and cavity needs to be flushed from another source. Using radiographs the location of the cavity was located and the skin was removed in preparation of a hole to be drill through the bone into the cavity.
