Dental Surgery

The pictures in this album are from a horse that was missing a permanent tooth that caused a cavity to form that communicated with the nasal passage. The oral entrance to the cavity was plugged with bone cement and a hole was opened into the cavity to help it heal from the inside out.

Skin has been removed in preparation to drill into the cavity18 viewsThe 2nd permanent cheek tooth is missing from the the upper right arcade of this horses mouth. The constant packing of food material into the space caused an eventual communication between the mouth and the nasal cavity. For the cavity to heal, the hole from the missing tooth needs to be plugged and cavity needs to be flushed from another source. Using radiographs the location of the cavity was located and the skin was removed in preparation of a hole to be drill through the bone into the cavity.
